About CarePath
Independent planning tools for family caregivers.
Every year, tens of millions of Americans find themselves suddenly responsible for an aging parent — usually with no warning, no manual, and no idea what anything costs. The information that exists is scattered across government PDFs, sales-driven directories, and forums full of conflicting advice.
CarePath was built to fix one specific part of that problem: the numbers. Our cost calculator, state map, and independence assessment turn a vague, frightening question — "can we afford to take care of Mom?" — into something a family can actually sit down and plan around.
What we believe
- Planning tools should be free. The calculator, assessment, and guides require no sign-up and always will.
- Estimates should be honest. Our figures are based on published median market rates and are clearly labeled as planning estimates, never quotes.
- Caregivers deserve respect, not sales pressure. We are not owned by any care provider, facility chain, or insurer.
How our estimates work
Rates shown in the calculator reflect median market prices by state and care type, compiled from published cost-of-care surveys and provider rate data, reviewed periodically. Actual prices vary by provider, region within a state, and level of care needed — which is why every estimate links to guidance on getting real quotes and checking program eligibility.
